When you need to manage confidential or sensitive information in PDFs, Admincontrol's built-in Redaction tool offers a simple and efficient solution for removing text, images, and graphics.
Getting Started with the Redaction Tool
Who Can Use the Redaction Tool?
The Redaction tool is available to seller's administrators and content administrators, allowing them to safely redact sensitive content within the data room. You can find the Redaction tool in the "More Actions" menu for all PDFs, excluding password-protected and signed documents.
How to Redact Content
Manual Redaction
- Mark the Content: Start by selecting the content you wish to redact.
- Interact with the Menu: Hovering over the marked area will reveal a mini menu where you can remove the marked area, customize the redaction color, or leave a comment.
- Apply Redactions: Once you've marked all content, click the "Apply Redactions" button to remove the content permanently.
- Save and Publish: After applying redactions, save and publish the document so it becomes available to users. Remember, redactions are permanent and cannot be undone.

Redaction by Search
- Open the Search Panel: Click the search icon to open the panel.
- Search and Redact: Enter the content you wish to find, and apply redactions to all search results with the "Apply Redaction" button. Previous search marks will remain, and you can add multiple searches before applying redactions.
Handling Outlines, Bookmarks, and Comments
If your document features bookmarks, outlines, and comments, the corresponding panel will open. Review this content for sensitive information as well. While you can't redact bookmarks, outlines, or comments, you have the option to remove them.
Versions and Copies of Documents
- Document Versions: If multiple versions exist, you'll be notified before starting redaction to ensure all necessary versions are redacted.
- Document Copies: Redactions do not affect document copies, so each must be redacted separately if needed.
Redaction and Signed Documents
Redaction is typically disabled for signed documents because it invalidates signatures. However, if redacting a signed document is necessary for sharing, you can enable redaction in "Settings" under "Redaction Settings."
Keep in mind that this action is irreversible, and the signature will be permanently invalidated. You will receive a warning before proceeding with this action.

Redaction History
Once a document is redacted, it will be recorded in the document properties table under the "Redaction" tab, detailing when and by whom the redaction was performed.
